What is Islamic New Year?
Just like Gregorian New Year, Islamic New Year is the beginning of lunar Hijri year. The first month is Muharram. Eleven other months follow the 1st one. It has other titles as well. For instance, Arabic New Year and some call it Hijri New Year.

Islamic New Year begins at the end of the month Dhul Hijjah. Islamic New Year 2022 can hardly align with the start of the Gregorian year. This is because of the lunar lifecycle. Every year there is a change of almost 10 days.
The Gregorian calendar has a shorter lunar cycle than the short lunar one. There is a chance that the 1st of January will be the same as the 1st of Muharram in the future.
Some Muslims have observed the 1st of Muharram on different seasons. The individuals born in the 90s have observed the holy month in winter. Muslims were fasting in May during the hottest part of the year.
The South Asian region will see the start of the Islamic New Year on August 9th. The Islamic New Year will be observed on the 29th of July, 2022, in the region.

How United Kingdom Muslims community celebrate Islamic New Year?
“The United Kingdom doesn’t like Islamic New Year very much. It is similar to other countries in that it is quiet and used to remembrance. The UK does not offer a public holiday on this occasion.”
“Although there are millions of Muslims in the world, they all take a day off or don’t work at all. The working hours of many Muslim business owners in London are reduced. The educational institutions don’t support holidays.”

Shias were told in 2020 to keep the tradition alive. It is necessary to pass on the Ashura culture to the modern generation. The community is growing due to the personality of Hazrat Hussayn.

When is 9th and 10th Muharram in London 2021?
In August, the dates are the 17th and 18th. On the 7th and 8th of August, in London, there will be 9th and 10th Muharram. The 8th of August is when London will host Ashura Day.

What is Ashura?
The tenth is what Ashura means. Each year, Ashura is linked to the day, so it is Ashura Day. This is the tenth day. There is a huge significance to the tenth of Muharram in the UK.
It is the day when Hazrat Hussayn died in the Karbala Battle.
The Grandson of the Islamic Prophet was responsible for reviving the religion. laihissalam was the one who stood up for his principles. The Umayyad Caliphate had a caliph.
He ruled from 668 to 683. Many Muslims opposed his nomination. One of them is Hazrat Hussayn. There was a policy of killing the person who was against him.
The Holy Grandson decided to support his tribe even though he knew he was in danger. He lost the choice of luxury life because he did not support the tyrants.
“laihissalam started traveling to Mecca, thinking that he wouldn’t get to follow in the footsteps of his father. The thoughts didn’t go right. His (Alaihissalam) way was blocked by the brutal Yazid. 30000 soldiers surrounded Him and his friends.”
He was still fighting. They gave the final warning and limited their access to water. Either support the government or get killed. Hazrat Hussayn stood by his principles and turned down the support of Yazid.
The result was His Martyr with his companions. The companions were very loyal throughout this time. The family of Hazrat Hussayn, including his sister, were kept captive. The leadership role was taken by Hazrat Zainab (Alaihissalam), who showed what he had done.
Three years after the incident, the cruel ruler passed away. This shows that the military strength and barbaric nature are powerless at the time of death.

What happened in Muharram?
The Shahadat of Hazrat Hussain (Alaihissalam) was not the only thing that happened in the month of Muharram. There is a Sufi named Baba Farid who died. It is the 5th of Muharram.
Pakistan natives consider it a sacred day but anyone who shares the spiritual similarity can value it. He died in the year 665. On the 7th of Muharram, water access to Hazrat Hussain and his companions was banned.
It was one of the worst events in history. Muhammad Sirajuddin Naqshbandi was born in the year 1297 AD. He was an Islamic scholar and a leader in the Mughal Empire. He was the first descendant of someone who built the Taj Mahal.
The Indian Sufi, Ashraf Jahangir Semnani, was born in the year 808. The ruler of Semnan was him.
Muslims appreciate Sufis. They believe that such people are loyal to faith and have an emotional religious journey. The Sufis who died centuries ago are valued by Muslims. People visit the tomb to pay homage to the people who shared their stories.
